This is an extensively researched book about the life of Hernando Colon, son of Christopher Columbus, and the Biblioteca Colombina he created in 1539. Prior to his death Hernando collected between 10,000 and 20,000 items for his library, including over 3000 books. His library was organized using a system he created for it and was the first library to use bookshelves where the books were shelved vertically. He collected any paper object that struck his fancy, including playing cards and lyrics to songs.This was a fascinating read about one man’s bibliomania and his desire to collect every book on every subject. It is well written and doesn’t get overly bogged down in the author’s research.

As a "natural son" (not the product of a legitimate union) Colón could "win legitimacy only by showing himself to be his father's son in spirit." Colón strove to achieve this distinction by accumulating massive amounts of written works, printed images, music, and plants to create a collection that would far surpass any other collection of its time. Colón also kept meticulous details in multiple ledgers and created complex organizational systems. This book dives into some of Colón's collections, examines particular items in the collection, offers insight into why some items were especially important to Colón and analyzes why some were never discussed by the collector.This book is very dense and I wouldn't recommend it to the average book lover but if you're ready to go on a deep dig then this is the book for you!

I had to read this book.Hernando may have been an illegitimate son but in 1502 his father Christopher Columbus took the thirteen-year-old along on his fourth voyage to the New World. Hernando started his life familiar with lands and cultures that most of the world didn't even know existed.The book recounts Columbus's discoveries and his struggle to maintain his status and share of New World wealth for his heirs.The Admiral of the Ocean reigned as the greatest explorer for only a short time before he was dethroned. He became old news as successive explorers stole attention and acclaim. Spain sought to discredit Columbus as the first to discover the New World, desirous of keeping all the New World wealth. Hernando determined to return and solidify his father's status by writing a book about his father's life--essentially the first biography.The other part of the book is Hernando's thirst for knowledge, his obsession with collecting books of every kind, in every language--even if he couldn't read them. He collected prints and maps and art and ephemera gleaned from small booksellers.He kept lists of his books and when he lost over a thousand books in a shipwreck he knew which ones he needed to replace. He developed methods to catalog and organize the books and to retrieve the information in the books.Hernando was called upon to create a definitive map of the New World so that Spain and Portugal could finalize their territorial rights. He began an exhaustive dictionary but abandoned it knowing he could never finish it.As he traveled across Europe, Hernando came into contact with all the great thinkers whose ideas were rocking the world: Erasmus, Luther, Rabelais, Thomas More. During Hernando's lifetime, Henry was looking to divorce Catherine, Suleiman was conquering the Eastern reaches of Europe, and the Holy Roman Emperor was crowned as the head of church and state. Luther's teaching had fueled the Peasant's Revolt and the anti-authoritarian Anabaptist movement arose.In his later life, Hernando settled down and built his house and perfected his library. His garden was an arboretum containing plants and trees from across the world.Hernando's achievement was remarkable. His goal to order all human knowledge for accessible retrieval was monumental. About the Author
Jim Summaria is a veteran rock concert photographer whose photos have been published in numerous books, CDs, and publications. His lifelong passion for rock photography began as a 19-year-old armed with a Kodak Instamatic at a 1972 Rolling Stones concert. Thrilled with his first effort, he invested in a 35mm camera and a zoom lens, and sneaked onto the main floor of a Led Zeppelin concert to snap photos. One image was posted at a local record shop; the manager was impressed and hired the 20-year-old as the official photographer for a major Chicago concert promoter. Summaria went on to shoot every major rock act of the ’70s. After a “side trip†into a career in corporate photography, Summaria returned to the rock concert scene in 2008, photographing many of the same acts and creating the unique “then and now†portfolio few photographers have.

The photos are terrific and bring back great memories of bands and musicians we've loved since our youth. I had read this book before and enjoyed it but now the author has done a complete rewrite and added more to the story. We get dual point of views in this book and Ms. Shaw really added a lot more layers and a lot more depth to the characters. Penny is wanting to try things so with her friends suggestion, she attends a local munch. There she meets Marcus. He alpha, he's dominate and he makes her weak in the knees. I love the interaction between these two characters as Marcus does his best to hide his feelings while still very interested in Penny. But Marcus has trouble following him and soon it's too late to keep his attraction to Penny under wraps. Someone is after her but can he keep her safe? There were a few parts where I just wanted to smack Marcus but he is still one of my favorites in this series! I highly recommend this book!!
This is an amazing book and it captivated me from the very beginning! The characters are interesting and they drew me into their story. Loved it!

The story is well laid out so that you have a good balance of story line and sexy times! I love the dessert scene, the detail used to describe that scene is delectable! I like the balance of strong and soft played by both characters. We Penny's back bone when she gets frustrated with Marcus at the same time we see how loving and accepting she can be with no strings attached! Marcus realizes when he needs to be forceful and steady at the same time being humbled by who Penny is. I can't wait to read the rest of the Doms of Club Eden series!
This book goes into Marcus's POV more than the original. It is more well rounded and helps with seeing the relationship develop. Penny is interested in seeing if she is a submissive and meets Marcus at a get together. Marcus decides she is his and will teach her about being a submissive. Their relationship develops but Marcus is hiding a secret from his past that puts Penny in danger. When she finds out that Marcus has not told her something important, she is angry with him. How does he soothe her anger? What has his past got to do with Penny? Is the situation cleared up so Penny's life is no longer in danger? A must read book. Even though I read the original, I couldn't put this down.
Not just a🔥 hot book. It's also a love story and an intrigue. Kept me glued to the screen. Kept turning pages to find out what is happening next. Has some unexpected turns. Marcus it a bad ass Dom. This book is so good. From the beginning I could feel chemistry between Marcus and Penny. But with a psycho stalker still on the loose Marcus is hesitant to drag Penny in to his life. When one thing leads to another and it all comes crashing down, secrets are revealed and bonds are tested. This book is another perfect romantic suspense that will take you on a wild sensual ride.
I fell in love with Ms. Shaw's writing after reading Black Light: Possession. The start of this series has me hooked once again. Now, I've got another new series I'm going to Have To Read! I loved Penny and Marcus' story. Sexiness, suspense, great characters, great writing! This reader could not ask for more! Ms. Shaw has Delivered Again! Thank you!
I love this story. There's drama romance and some power exchange.this author really has a way with words cuz once I started I couldn't stop.although this is book one in a series this can be read as a standalone.trust me I won't want to stop with the first book
