Agree with previous reviewers this is a total ripoff. I didn't check the reviews before purchasing because my minecraft-loving son really wanted it. We have other hard-cover handbooks and thought this would be a nice add to the collection. It is not. Compared to the classic hardcover handbooks, this one is 1)paperback 2) 40% more expensive, 3) less than half the page count 4) font size is 3 times bigger, 5) spacing (white space) is more than double, and 6) only black and white.It looks like the publisher just turned on a photocopy machine and churned out copiesI can only hope that there are "secrets" in this "handbook", but as a paying parent, this is complete ripoff.
Do not buy. This is not authentic minecraft book. It looks like something my fourth grader could have made by herself. It is a very thin, black and white,lage print, short book full of information that anyone who is already a minecraft player will already know. It does not contain any useful secrets of the game. I paid more for this than I did for the official good quality book and am extremely upset with the quality and contents of this "book". I wish I could just return it but shipping it back just isn't worth it financially.
This "book" is seriously a joke. I skimmed through this book that I purchased for my nephew's birthday to find that the font is massive. Then I noticed that the grammar is horrendous throughout. The printed black and white pictures are distorted. I will be contacting Amazon to request a return. There is no excuse for this being an item for sale, especially $9.99! I'm extremely disappointed and hope others will read the reviews before purchasing. That was my mistake. I won't be making the same one, that's for sure!
FAKE!! this had to be copied off a scanner or something. its cheap nothing secret about it!
Poor quality. Basically the entire book is photocopied. "Color" illustrations are horrible and look all black. Waste of money. If I could give zero stars, I would.
This was a complete waste of time. Worthless. Do not waste a single resource on this book.
Bought this as a gift for a 9 year old. I was surprised when I opened it to find something that looks like it was run off on a home copier (in black and white) with brief captions done on on a computer. Very elementary. I went to the book store and bought two beautiful, hard back books with glorious easy to see pictures with good explanations for just a little more. This book was a huge disappointment. Maybe it was written for a 5 year old. Keep looking. I do NOT know why this is a top seller. Maybe others feel as I do: I should return it, but it isn't worth the hassle.
When we ordered the book we were under the impression that the book would be similar to the other official books. When we opened the packages we were badly surprised. It is a flimsy paperback, the reading level is only appropriate to a second grader. The entire reader (it doesn't deserve to be called a book) is double spaced and in large prints and the few graphics are not even in color print. This book is a huge disappointment and certainly not appropriate for a 8-12 year old as described. This reader looks more like somebody is trying to make some quick money of the popular series. If you notice the flip through the book option only shows you pages, that are leaving out the lacking quality of the reader. My suggestion, skip on this one and save your money.

It's hard to write an unbiased review for a book that changed your life, even if it was a previous edition. I think however, it's because I am naturally skeptical that I can be fair handed and even.To begin then; why, another edition. This is a book that has been around in different editions for 40 years. When an "updated", "new and improved" anything comes out, I am the first to raise an eyebrow as to what the motivation is. In this case, it's simple, both the challenges and the evidence available to the truth of Christianity is a constantly evolving thing, this is a book that in reality could be re-released every 20-30 years with no problem.Now to the book itself, it is a reference book first and foremost, it is not light reading, in fact it is quite intellectually taxing. It's designed for you to go to a particular section and gather information to answer a particular question, and in this area it is outstanding. The contents are well laid out so you can find what you need quickly. Questions or challenges are addressed concisely and thoroughly and with good cross references if you are looking to go deeper. I wouldn't suggest reading cover to cover in one sitting (though you can if you desire), take your time, let the information simmer, because there is a lot to take in.In my opinion, this books greatest strength is its honesty. It is not afraid to present opposing views against Christianity, even when the evidence for faith in that subject can sometimes seem a little light, more than once I found myself wanting the authors to claim absolute undeniability, but that would detract from the overall strength of the honest, accumulative argument. There is no silver bullet either For or against Christianity, you have to weigh the evidence for yourself, honestly, and go from there, for me this book is a scale tipper.The first time I read this book it helped bring me to a strong intellectual Christian faith, this time, it helped me go even deeper and provide even more answers to what, for me has been a journey with many questions to a faith in Jesus Christ.ANYONE with an open mind, from staunch atheist to staunch Christian, with any questions about the truth of Christianity will benefit from reading this book, I couldn't recommend it more.
I read the older version of the Evidence That Demands A Verdict before, but after reading through the updated and expanded edition, I must say, I'm liking it a lot. The authors tell us from the very beginning that "it's been specifically created to equip Christians, so they can know what they believe, why it is true, and how to communicate Biblical truth to a skeptical world." The book clearly delivers on that. More than a book to give to a non-believer in Christianity, it is a great resource for Christians to have in their ministry library. The hardcopy is pretty chunky, but it's very easy to read (Two columns in a page, which helps people like me who lose track in an essay format!).I really love the Appendix: Responding to the Challenges of Bart Ehrman. Whenever I engage in conversations with atheists or agnostics on college campuses, they often quote or cite Bart Ehrman to support their view on God, the Bible, and so forth. Instead of going through all the books by Bart Ehrman (I have most of it), it saves me tons of time simply to look at the Appendix.
Highly Recommended. Josh McDowell's Evidence That Demands a Verdict is an awesome book that teaches in detail all the available evidence currently regarding our belief in our Lord Jesus Christ. He divides the book into 4 main parts, 1-Evidence for the Bible, 2- Evidence for Jesus, 3-Evidnece for the Old Testament, 4-Evidence for Truth. Each section is divided further into smaller chapters, all packed with a wealth of information and data, all with appropriate references. I love this book as I know that as Christians we are not to have blind faith, but have reasonable faith. Reading books like this only strengthens our faith. Other books that are very helpful, if you did not read them yet are A Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, and Cold Case Christianity. Parts of these books may present the same type of information, but they do really complement each other. As we are to love the Lord our God with our whole hearts, minds, and strength! This book is wonderful in hardback and also in Kindle, which is the format that I chose. The Kindle Version has all the awesome content. Plus, it also has a very extensive interactive table of contents, which makes navigating through this huge book so easy and quick. It has hyperlinks of each section, chapter, and even sections of each chapter to direct you where you need to go, especially if this is to be used as a reference. This is a huge tome, numbering 868 pages in total. I am reading it from the beginning to the end and enjoying every word of it ! After reading it, I know I will return to it again and again and using it as a useful reference. This edition is updated from the book of the same title almost 20 years ago. This new addition has brought with it may new data, research, archeological evidence etc. since that time. That is why I have waited to buy this book and bought it on the first day available. This is a amazing reference. It strengthens faith, and it has great information for believers and unbelievers as well! It gives us preparation for when people ask us to give an answer and to give a reason of our hope that you have. "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect," 1 Peter 3:15, and "to always be ready to preach in and out of season, to rebuke, correct, and encourage with patience and careful instruction." 2 Timothy 4:2 I highly recommend this book ! I pray that this book will help you. May God open our spiritual eyes and enlighten our hearts to the hope of our calling ! In Jesus name, Amen.

This was excellent for the beginner I taught. It seems that all the other "beginner" books I've used or have looked at are too advanced (despite SEEMING to be a low level) and/or have topics that are not immediately useful. This book's level and topics were immediately useful and had illustrations and color that made it visually pleasing. Also, there were some substitution exercises that were effective if needed, and they weren't boring as most subsitution exercises are. BONUS: the price was terrific! I will use this again with other students/clients. (FYI, I used this with an older, Syrian refugee woman, with very limited English although she knew the English alphabet and could read some. She'd been here 3 years but had a relative communicating for her, so her English was extremely limited.)
My teenage son has gaps in his language comprehension. This book, designed for ESL, is a good one for him because it has drawings and very repetitive characters, scenerios that are common in everyday life but he needs help understanding. The speech bubbles help represent family relationships and pronouns. "HE is MY brother" for example (when it comes from the daughter in the family) helps him better understand the familial labels.I also bought Volume 2 , thinking Vol 1 would be too boring and basic for him...but it wasn't. It fills in some gaps I wasn't even sure existed. He needs me to read it along with him, asking questions, pointing, correcting, but it is better than flashcards because he can detect PATTERNS in the panels. For example, relationships illustrated all on one or two pages of cartoons: He is my father. He is my son. She is my wife. She is my mother... etc. all on one page with correct corresponding speech bubbles.And the drawings are not comical or talking animals or but depict obvious male/female parents/adults and male/female children (who are shorter than the adults so we can tell which is which) ... women have longer hair. men have short hair. simple and necessary sterotype distinctions NEEDED for my son to absorb the generalizations and helpful for me to teach him.
I am teaching a class of adult refugees. It was hard to find material that was basic enough, but aimed more towards adults. This book fit the bill perfectly and the students quite like the book. Job well done.
Having sought ESL material in vain across Asia, I found this book to be a blessing. All of the materials that I've found in Asia, even in university book stores, had been thrown together by non-native speakers and were rife with horrible, glaring mistakes on every single page. This is a disservice to a bright, talented student who could only aspire to speaking & writing the botched-up "English" in those materials.This isn't rocket science; this is just a simple, well-done product that fills a void.It is ingenious in its simplicity. Each simple page has plenty to expand on, e.g., I pointed to the sentence "My name's Anne." --which the student incorrectly read (on the first try) as "My name is Anne." I explained the discrepancy, she then said it perfectly, and I explained the role of the apostrophe here. The book also says "I'm Anne." I explained that this was equivalent, and I explained which forms were more common in speech, etc. I also explained that the apostrophe doesn't always indicate a contraction (when it's possessive), etc. So there is *plenty* to expand on. (And it does not harm the student to transcribe some into a notebook. :-)I would not recommend *any* book for self-study. For a young student who is truly on his own I would probably recommend a book that comes with audio recordings (of *native* speakers!), and hope for the best.
I am using this book as a text in an ESL (English as Second Language) course I am teaching and have found it very helpful. The combination of graphics and words is most instructive.
My husband and I are volunteer tutors for adult English Second Language learners at a nearby community college. We have two copies of this book and it works perfectly no matter what the country of origin of our learners. We have the advantage of having lived for a few years in China and know that it is difficult to learn a foreign language - especially as adults (in our 60s). The book starts with typical meeting people conversations but combines those with grammar concepts such as contractions right at the beginning.
I'm using this book for my ESL students. I'm tutoring two women who recently arrived as refugees and spoke no English. I am not trained as a teacher. Luckily they had apparently studied English letters in their native country, so could read a little. My only wish is that the book began with somewhat more formal English. Instead of 'My name is Candy' or 'I am Candy' they are to say 'I'm Candy'. Numerous contractions immediately rather than a more formal it is, it does not, etc. However, with lots of laughter and encouragement (and occasional resorting to an on-line translator when we get stuck), the picture book format is working well. Not only are they having to learn English, but some of the sounds in English are totally foreign to their way of speaking. Their primary language does not have several sounds that are common in English -- the letter P, for instance, is very difficult. (not the fault of the book).
It is hard to start off teaching to a person who has no understanding of the English language, but by far this has had a much better impact than the other books. Easy is good.

I love DJ Khaled as a personality. I love his positivity and energy. The book seems more germane to him and his life experiences than what we would expect as a reader looking to get something from the book. It was great for about the first 100 pages, then seemed to fall off. Its okay to end a book when you run out of things to talk about. For example, there's a section saying to "buy more pillows"...enough said? Worth the read, but not huge on content.
As an entrepreneur I must say that DJ Khalid knocked it out of the part with this book! There are so many things trying to hold us back. Never let it be "YOU". In this book there are several 'KEYS' that resonated with me. Especially about the "THEY". Cutting all negative people out of our lives is important. Being humble, grateful, and showing appreciation and respect is vital to our success. Nothing can hold you back. Only you can. Just BE THE BEST!
I like DJ Khaled. He seems genuine. I’m not into his music but as a person, I’ve always liked his energy and positivity. That being said, he’s not a writer. This book was hard to get through and not b/c of my lack of reading and comprehension skills. I couldn’t finish it. Sorry!

Veteran practitioners of the ancient art and craft of leatherwork may recoil at the notion of introducing computer numeric control (CNC) machines, software and 3D printers into processes they have always done carefully by hand, with hand tools. The author of this book, Tim Deagan, however, is a bit of a modern Renaissance man when it comes to making things and trying new technology. His new book is a refreshing blend of (1) time-proven, basic techniques for cutting, grooving, gouging, beveling, edging and joining leather, (2) using hobby-level CNC machines to cut pieces and laser-drill holes, and (3) using 3D printers to impart decorative designs onto leather surfaces. It should be noted right away that these 3D-printed embellishments will not be nearly as durable as hand-tooled decorations that have been hammered into leather. But Deagan is not deterred in his mission. "Modern Leatherwork for Makers" likely will encourage tech-savvy makers (young, old or in between) to try their hands at leatherwork. "With a willingness to trade durability and strength for customization and availability," he writes, "leatherworkers can easily 3D print many items that expand their capabilities." The projects in his book are geared toward beginners, usefulness and fun. The leather items range from a video-game-inspired cell phone case to a fractal-pattern journal cover and a Steampunk action-cam top hat band. But hand work is always required with these projects, including stitching, dyeing, coloring, finishing and using products to hasten the softening of leather. Even if you don't want to work with CNC machines and 3D printers, you can learn some good, basic leatherworking skills from this book. "Modern Leatherwork for Makers" is written clearly, well organized and well illustrated. So which is better, "old-school leatherworking techniques" or "modern digital fabrication methods"? Tim Deagan admires the careful artistry of those who pursue the time-honored approaches. But he believes modern technology is bringing new capabilities and possibilities to leatherworking, as well. A long, long time ago, I remember being given a set of leather punches or dies. They were intended to be used to stamp patterns into leather. I don’t recall ever having anything more than leather scraps to work on, but it was fun while the excitement lasted. I am still attracted to hand tooled leather goods. I admire the craftsmanship and artistry, recognizing that I lack the patience to pursue something like this. Tim Deagan’s somewhat odd tome on using CNC machines, 3D printers and other devices, like craft cutting machines has reawakened my old interest in the form of lust. Now I want a CNC machine and a 3D printer. (I already have the cutting machine.) Ultimately “Modern Leatherwork for Makers†has little practical value to me. Despite the addition of modern technology, this very well-illustrated book drives home once again that leatherworking is a hand-craft and now I not only lack the patience, but the manual dexterity. Deagan provides a thorough basic introduction to leatherworking. I found this to be informative and also convincing, in the sense of making it clear that leatherwork is something for me to admire, not to create. He then goes on to describe how CNC machines and 3D printers can be brought to the craft. These equally thorough basic introductions convinced me that I need a 3D printer soon – and, quite possibly, a CNC machine. Deagan provides seven projects illustrating concepts. One of them, a combination hatband for a Steampunk-style top hat and action cam, opened my eyes and my mind to something I have long wanted to try. Each of the projects is fascinating in its own right for me, as Deagan demonstrated how the machines can be used. Deagan’s writing style is excellent. He is thorough without becoming pedantic. His attention to detail is very impressive. Even though I will not pursue leatherworking as an advocation, I am indebted to Me. Deagan for an excellent introduction to the practical use of CNC machines and 3D printers.Jerry
I figured that this would expect some background in the maker world of tools, so 2d+1 CNC machines and 3d additive printing, and then would try to introduce leatherworking and some ways to use the maker tools in leatherworking. But there was I think too much assumed, on both the maker side and the leather side. I could see some interesting projects in here, but a first read did not teach me much in the way of technique. Perhaps if I knew traditional leatherwork? Maybe that would have helped. With a different background, your mileage might vary (a lot).
This is an excellent how to. I love that it includes the most basic leather buying terminology. It covers basic leatherworking as well as using the 3d printer and CNC machines, with software, to take it up a notch. Several projects are discussed that are very in demand and modern, like steampunk, cell phone cases, shoulder bags, ect. Cutting and joining leather, basic tools, rivets, grommets, dyes, lubricants- it's pretty much all there for the basics. The book has resources too, from free software that you can use, to patterns to download, supply houses for leather and supplies, and websites of interest to makers.It's well illustrated, easy to understand, but do expect some work learning to use the software and machines. The book does facilitate that though.I'm not sure I'd gift this book to anyone, because of the skill level involved, but I think it's an excellent guide for a cosplayer, fashion designer, or leatherworker who wants to take their work to a professional level with modern projects.
