Having long admired John Curry's skating, I was interested in learning about what it took to become (in my opinion), the greatest skater ever. Many of the answers are found here: discipline, tragedy & musicianship. There is little doubt Mr. Curry could have been one of the finest dancers of his or any other day, yet was denied that chance by a cruel, close-minded father. Dancing's loss was skating's gain, although I am saddened Mr. Curry is not better known. If this book paints John as an unlikeable person, it also does a fine job of explaining why he was that way. Demon or Deity, I am still intrigued by Mr. Curry's magic.
I wish I had not waited two years to read this book. Easily one of the best figure skating books and sport biographies I have ever read (and I was a figure skating book collector back in the 1990s.) This author did so much research, so many interviews and tried to describe the psyche of an athlete and artist who did not share much with many. After reading this, you really shake your head at the coverage of the last Olympic Games - knowledge and respect of Curry could have leant itself well to coverage of Rippon and Radford as out Olympians.Also: if you grew up thinking Curry's MSG performances were pivotal (usually thanks to having read A Very Young Skater as a kid), you might be surprised to see them given so little attention here. I don't know if that's because the author didn't find them important or because they actually weren't important in the large scheme of things. I'm eager to delve more into those performances to see which it is.
I was on the fence about reviewing this book since I didn't finish it... but there was a reason for that.I love John Curry's skating - he brought it to a new level and it really is the epitome of artistry on ice.But after reading 3/4 of the book, I realised I like John Curry much better as an athlete than a person. In fact, he came across as a bit of a prat.The book was good enough that I will go back and finish it but I think a bit of downtime before I do so.
One of the best written bios I've read. It managed to show his flaws while remaining sympathetic. The story itself is fascinating. John tried to invent a whole new form of highbrow ice entertainment but didn't have the temperament or business acumen to manage a troupe. Recommended to all skating fans.
I think it is well written. I was fortunate to have met John have a skating lesson with him and to skate in a show with him at the old skyrink. I did not know a lot about his history except what I read. When you train at something for years there are going to be highs and lows. He changed the face of male figure skating in my opinion for the better. My one word for john curry, GENIUS. Thank you John.

It was also a bit dishy on fellow skaters Jo Jo Starbuck & Dorothy Hamill and the major ice shows like Ice Capades.
I would have included "genius" in the title. Heartbreaking profile of a true artistic genius who singlehandedly changed and elevated the sport of figure skating into an art rivaling ballet. Be sure and watch his videos on YouTube, especially the programs "After All" (choreographed by Twyla Tharp), and his own choreogrpahy to Debussy's "Afternoon of a Faun." He acheived incredible beauty.
BRILLIANT book! I tend to only read biographies and many of them are tedious in too many chapters. This book on John Curry is sensational and well-deserving of my five stars. It is gripping and fascinating ALL the way through. Unbelievable details and accounts from start to finish.

While this novel probably cannot be said to add anything new to the existing body of noir literature, it is thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Short, bloody, and fun in a can’t-turn-away-from-the-wreckage sort of way.The first half of the plot is basically a remake of The Postman Always Rings Twice. Jack is a television repair store owner who falls for a beautiful, amorous eighteen-year old named Shirley Angela. She is the titular virgin, although that state of being does not persist much longer than the second chapter. The two of them hatch a plot to kill her ailing rich stepfather. In real life, almost anyone could have pulled this crime off, since the old man was practically on death’s door anyway. However, the pair overthink things, there are plenty of twists and turns, more than one body ends up in the morgue, and then events quickly spiral out of control.Once again, I wonder why Hollywood has not transformed this Hard Case Crime novel into a low-budget drama. A story like this could be a great vehicle for a pair of up-and-coming actors.
Hard Case Crime strikes again with a noir gem from the 1950’s. This is pure, unabashed femme fatale noir. Don’t expect to get out alive. That music you hear in the background is la forza del destino.Jack Ruxton runs a TV sales and repair shop in Florida. He meets Shirley Angela, a smoldering-hot teenager who is the principal caregiver for her dying stepfather. While he is imperious and obnoxious, he has a hefty bank account that looms in the distance as compensation for Shirley’s current state of near-servitude. When she and Jack collide with Olympic-level passion, they quickly figure out that this process could be hurried along a bit. Yes, we’ve heard that song before but we’ve heard it because it works. This is one of the tried-and-true noir plots and Gil Brewer knows how to wring every bit of blood, sweat and tears from it. Most important are the subsidiary female characters: Jack’s old flame who won’t let go and has a habit of following him (wherever he might go) and Shirley’s next-door neighbor, a very “lonely†woman whose husband has been working in Alaska for months and months. Count on them to add mega-complications to the plot. The dying stepfather also has a nosy physician who likes to dabble in amateur detective work. Put all of these elements into a bag, shake gently, and wait for Jack and Shirley’s dreams to come a cropper.This is not Dostoyesky, more like James M. Cain. The writing is slick, the plotting urgent. The author has been compared with Hemingway and there are one or two one-liners worthy of Elmore Leonard. Once you start you will want to read it straight through.This is the kind of noir thriller that we read for the aesthetic pleasure of seeing a common form worked and reworked with a master’s touch. Very nice stuff and the sex and violence shouldn’t upset the squeamish.
If this novel teaches us anything, it's this: Virgins are Dangerous. Very Dangerous. Sure, the prospect of bedding a virgin sounds glamorous, but let's face it: It's not really the stupendously fantastic experience that it might appear to be on first glance. Unless you're a suicide bomber with a severe mental illness and the prospect of a twenty year lifespan to be followed by a severe and violent death appeals to you and you're under the rather misguided notion that the pearly white gates hold forty virgins in white wedding dresses waiting to fulfill every one of your wildest fantasies, the thought quickly loses luster.And as THE VENGEFUL VIRGIN aptly proves, these beautiful rosebuds can turn into what we in the medical community like to refer to as a "Stage Five Clinger." When that happens, run, do not walk to the nearest exit, even if you're missing a few clothes and possibly even your car keys. You can send the police back for the rest of your stash later, after the threat of imminent demise has worn off. If you're lucky enough to have your car keys handy, and even luckier to have a buddy present, have him discreetly move toward the nearest exit right before you both run like hell.The pages and my Kindle burst with dames and broads and TVs rammed into the ceiling and dialogue punctuated with colorful language. The pages overflowed with poignant prose and distressed damsels. But I like my hard-boiled novels filled with PIs and detectives, and these folks were relegated to secondary status. While I continuously flipped the pages and devoured this little gem rather quickly, I did feel a bit unfulfilled in the end, even with more than one dead body gracing the pages.Shirley Angela and Grace (no last name) proved as intriguing as Jack Ruxton, and filled with more curves than a string of back country roads. The detours proved small and short lived with the story reaching its dramatic conclusion in rather explosive fashion. And while liking this story was rather easy, really liking this story might prove to be dangerous. I'm so grateful to the one and only MRS Marley for letting us in by writing this book. I could not put it down. She had endure some pain and disrespect by some heartless ******! Oh but look who is still standing and where she is standing. Rita - you are an inspiration to me,and it is my hope to meet you face to face one day.
A riveting depiction of "the other side" of Nesta Robert Marley's life by his wife. I read the book in just 2 sittings, though I agree with a reviewer that Mrs. Marley glossed over a lot, most likely to preserve her husband's reputation as the true Legend of Reggae, and which I understand, as the book is about her life with him. I'm a West Indian woman who also started out as a single Mom so I can relate to Rita's courage, determination, and strength to survive and discover herself. I was ~17 when Bob Marley became an international Reggae Icon, and I'm still a fan of his music, as well as his sons, especially Ziggy, Stephen, and Damian (Junior Gong).
I love the Marley family and this book is a page turner. It gives a great insight on the life of a celebrity wife and mom. I definitely have a greater level of respect for Mrs. Marley.
As a young girl growing up in the Caribbean,I've heard all the praise surrounding Bob Marley,became a fan of his music and of his kids music but never knew much about Rita.Reading her story was an emotional rollercoaster as I've seen many of my older female family members line after line.Big up Rita,she's a gem.
Beautiful intimate look at Rita and Bob's life. Much more descriptive than the Marley documentary, which was also well done. I would recommend this book to all that love Bob and his music, or those wanting to know more about him. Rita is an inspiration, such a strong and beautiful spirit.
This is Rita’s story. Is essential reading for her side of the story of life with Bob. Don’t come looking for any Illuminating Bob stories there are none. If you are reading other Marley bios throw this one in the mix, for a perspective.
I have read this book several times and bought a copy for several friends. It is a great read, I love getting to know Rita Marley and I love getting to know more about Bob Marley from her perspective (so many other perspective already published) it was refreshing. I also loved reading a more personal telling of Rastafari in Jamaica.
It lacked depth regarding how Rita really felt about Bob's infidelities that she somehow survived. I was hoping to get that understanding from her book but it wasn't there. I also wanted to know more about Bob's treatment in Germany and what he had to say as he was transitioning but that was missing also. Outside of that I enjoyed the book, the history provided and wish Rita continued success with her journey in this life.

He gives easy to understand and precise information on this and has an encouraging way through out the book. It's not a colorful book, it's not loaded with pictures as is The Book of Chakras, but it is detailed in the simple exercises. Actually, I came up with my own meditation, as he suggusted we all do, combining what rang true to me out of both books.

I am very unhappy with this purchase because many common drugs were not listed even when they were in the index. I turned to the page from the index but no drug was found, only as a side effect of another drug. It also doesn't list many of the supplements that people use. I would not recommend this book for this reason.
An almost perfect book. It lacks a few of the newer drugs, but honestly I don't know how any book could keep up. I like the layout of each drug and especially the part of special dental considerations. I've had the book for a few months and I've only had a couple drugs that were difficult to find due to the generic/brand name discrepencies. It's easy and quick to access.The one area I would like to see improved is another index categorizing drugs by groups, such as Benzodiazepenes, CCBs, anesthetics, etc. and what general characteristics and precautions each group presents. I think that would make this book perfect in my mind.
This will be so great to use in our clinic. We already use the last edition until it was so beat up! Hurry and send it-

Or will she?This book appeals to all levels of people & ages of civilized society, prompting the reader to want change before the end. What a cliffhanger!I highly recommend this the first of three books!
I was a little disappointed. I love end-times/apocalyptic novels and pretty much only read Christian fiction for the great story lines but also clean language and without sex and extreme violence. That’s just not entertainment for me personally. So I’m very appreciative when an author can give a good story without including all the things that others feel is necessary for a good book. Though this author explains the need for her language choices due to the severity of the situation , other authors have been able to write about this same time period without those language choices, for which I’m grateful. We can all imagine what could be said in those situations without seeing it in print or having to be subjected to it. I usually don’t write a review if it is not a good one but I just want to encourage Christian writers to stay with their core values and give us good, clean entertainment with a great story line. I’m sorry that I won’t be reading the remaining books in the series for this reason. This is just a personal conviction, not to judge, as everyone must follow their own convictions.
I LOVED this book!!! First of all I am a very slow reader and need excitement on every page. The type of excitement that combines strong characters, plot twists and eventually the love between a beautiful loyal wolf and his fearless mistress is awesome!! (Don't get me wrong, this book may include a lot of strong feelings and love, but it isn't for the faint of heart) I just couldn't get enough of Ash and Sera!! I don't want to spoil anything, so that's as far as I'll go. This wonderful author really knows how to tug at every emotion in a brand new and exciting way!! I cannot wait for book 2!!!!
This novel was a page turner and hard to put down!! The overall thematic plot was prophetic in its telling! The nature of the characters and how things unfolded was always a guessing game! I enjoyed the viewpoint from this young characters eyes. The action was fast paced and gripping. I had to wonder what was up with Micah and how did he fit in? Very interesting... very! By the way, I was taken back at first with Ash, but as we got more along in the novel I wanted to see him fit more and more into the action!Very much looking forward to the next two volumes of the Trilogy. Powerful and purposeful!
I'm not usually into zombies and post-apocalypse stuff (OK, there aren't really zombies here) but I didn't want to put this book down. Action packed and thrilling, Ms. Leonhard takes us on a fantastical ride leaving me wanting more. How long do I have to wait for the next installment?Ms. Leonhard understands the mind of an atheist as portrayed by the protagonist. She avoids straw man arguments from both the Christian and atheist viewpoints and instead gives one of the most honest depictions I've seen in fiction of the interactions and thoughts of the opposing mindsets.While the prophecies of the Bible give an outline of the events at the end of the world, many details are left vague or open to speculation. This book provides some viable possibilities that are new to my thinking. That's what makes this so intriguing. Whether you believe this stuff or not, The Goliath Code is a great read.
Excellent novel about the tribulation!!! The bottom line, people do Not want to be left behind after the Rapture!!! All Hell will break loose on earth for 7 years, and literally, "only the strong will survive"!!!!
Really liked it. It’s a fast-paced read and a little different than a lot of other end time novels. I just wanted to get to the end. When does the next one come out?
This book starts out like many post apocalyptic thrillers, but eases into a more important message of what is to come than most other stories of this genre.I really like the characters and am eager to read the next two books of the trilogy.
