I'm a big fan of Blaise Corvin's books and this book largely didn't disappoint me. It has a great premise, a very likeable protagonist and it kept me turning page after page long after I should have gone to sleep or done something else.I only have 2 gripes about the book that I hope gets corrected/toned down.1. Not a big deal, but this is a pretty quick read and I was left wishing the book was about a 1/3 longer than it was. It's not quite a novella but not quite a novel and I'd really love it if I could get more than a day of reading out of it.2. The biggest gripe that I have in almost all LitRPG/gamelit books is the juvenile sex fantasies that get acted out. Blaise hasn't really hit this area in his other series but for some reason thought it would be awesome to do so here. I understand the target audience is often gamer nerds with awkward social skills, limited sexual experience, and or furry fetishes but I honestly feel the story would be better if sex played a much smaller role in future books of this series. I can deal with it but it's a little overdone and immature and doesn't reflect well on Blaide's natural talent as a writer.Despite this I highly recommend the book and will definitely buy the sister series as soon as this review is submitted. If the next book gets a little longer and matures a bit it'll probably get 5 stars from me.
Alright to get the full awesomeness of this new series you gotta read cultivating chaos from williamD.arand they share this universe. So it has magic check, monster girls check, it's gonna be a harem check, if you like blaise writing it's that plus a wuxia, no big glaring grammar issues here and this sets a good foundation for the books to come cannot wait for 2019!
And life sucks. Darker than the other VeilVerse story. Doesn't need background in wuxia/xianxia novels to understand. Things start getting most interesting toward the end of the volume.
Both this and Cultivating Chaos are great starts to this new shared universe series. Loved the Norse mythology used for the base line of the world, as well as the possibilities of other mythologies popping up. Looking forward to many more books in the veil verse.
Really enjoyed this one, thought the very neutral tone of the main character rather than good or evil set the tone for how Asgard exists. Full of violence, but not necessarily evil.Definitely looking forward to book 2.
I read the other book in the shared universe, and it led me to this one. I enjoyed both books, I love the idea of a shared universe for writers.
This book comes at you with a vengeance, rides you hard and leaves you wet. An incredible story about a man finding his life beyond revenge with new found power and old grudges. The veilverse is an exciting place to be. Blaise Corbin always writes good stories and I didn't think it could get better than Delvers LLC but I was very wrong. Ashamed Awakening is a gritty adventure that you can't help but read in one sitting. 5/5 valkyries.
Not really sure what the animal woman harem adds to the story. Their interactions aren't explicit enough for people looking for that type of porn but it is explicit enough to confuse people who are just looking for a fun fantasy novel. Hopefully the next one doesn't go all in on the asgardian sister wives. Otherwise very well done.
